And there are certainly some octogenarian cyclists in Dumfries who can outpedal me for distance if not for speed. I think we'd all agree that they're a bit of a breed apart though.

Apologies now if the Kirkcaldy crew turn out to be the members of the local Rural, with their granddaughters in tow. And hats off to them!

First audax I went on I got passed by a 70+ year old chap on a fixed wheel. He immediately became my cycling hero. Not as supple as he used to be though, I re-passed him when the road turned sharply downwards.

Aherm... on the Audax's I ride on there are plenty of men over 70 who woop my rear end on the rides - I used to consider myself fit. ;)

Steve, I'm driving in with my family.

Without knowing the ride organisers at all, I'm guessing that 'people' will cover mainly fit men, young to middle aged. When eight to eighty year olds are cycling safely from Kirkcaldy to Edinburgh, our work will be done

I'm waiting on some bright spark to ask what all the fuss is about when people can manage to cycle safely from Kirkcaldy to Edinburgh.

The feeder ride from Kirkcaldy is now online - via Dalgety Bay, Inverkeithing and South Queensferry.

Don't know whether any Dunfermline cyclists would be interested in joining in, given the discussion re safer routes elsewhere

@POPScotland looking like a Fife feeder ride is on the cards, any regular commuter know the best route from the bridge to meadows? #POP28
