I had a similar considerate white van driver here too. Wish I could remember the name of the company, but the lad driving their van didn't feel like rushing me through the pinch points. In my judgement he had a safe overtake on one of them, but didn't take either.

In return I spun like Obree's Hotpoint to get him through faster, which may or may not be ironic, given that I refuse point blank to speed up for a tailgater.

"Long hereafter will I speak of your gracious deeds to my fellows, yea, that your livery may live long as a beacon of hope and token of friendship between combustion-powered behemoth-pilots and cycle-people."

One car this morning waited until it was past the end of a section of bus lane before signalling left to move over to turn left down Abbey Lane. The van behind it then waited and slowed before doing the same to tuck in behind me, rather than attempting to execute the maneouvre through the space I was occupying.

"I can only assume that he's an example of the driving standards you require, which refreshingly breaks with the "white van man" stereotypes. Please pass on my thanks again to this ambassador for your company."

Sounds suitable.

Yep, that's the one. He'd had a tricky negotiation at the lights at the end of the Meadows - a 4x4 driver appeared to get lost in the middle of the junction, even well after the lights had changed, and he gave plenty of room the whole way up Buccleuch Street, including where the cycle lane disappears before Dagda.

Probably a bit flowery, but best I could manage pre-coffee...

This one?

"At George Anderson & Sons we are fully aware of our responsibilities and we seek to positively influence our suppliers and staff to eradicate unfair practices and discrimination. This helps to encourage a culture of fairness and respect where everyone can reach their full potential."

http://www.georgeanderson.co.uk/about_us.htm

Have 20 vehicles and based in East Lothian.

Be interesting to know if this was a 'one off' driver or whether they have all had 'cycle aware' training.

Kudos to the George Anderson & Sons van driver this morning - he'd stopped at the pedestrian lights northbound near Dagda and as the lights were changing I caught up with him in the cycle lane.

He shuggled over a bit to make more room for me, then indicated clearly and early that he was turning into Buccleuch Place.

I was locking up just beside him, when he approached and apologised if he'd scared me at the lights...

Quite the contrary, so I thanked him for looking out for cyclists!

Robert
Off to email the company...

so today seemed good for me :)
I was cycling along Hutchison and a car was sitting behind me. plenty of space to pass but didnt.
I had no idea why and just kept going.
turned right and my panner bag slipped off the rack(its locked,so cant fully fall off)
I assume they were sitting back after noticing it was loose.

coming up to Dundee Terrace,a van sat back and let me go round past the Approach Road entrance, rather than nip in front of me(as happened to a cyclist up ahead)

then at Odeon(?) on Lothian Road, the lights were out
I made a error in trying to go out and turn right with a lorry going striaght on. (my mistake)
cars all stopped and let me go

there were the usual idiots as well, however these bits stoood out as a bit of thoughtfulness for a poor cyclist on a horrible day
