I cycled through the area Chug links to on Saturday - the yellow lines you can see in Streetview seem to have been redone and as he says the lines now extend round the corner to where the dark coloured car is.

"Lobbying of councillors by groups and by individuals can get there eventually, and persistence is often a crucial element."

YES BUT!

Spokes' pioneering work in the NINETEEN SEVENTIES (and 80's) should have meant that 'simple' things became 'automatic' as part of any design/maintenance/planning processes!!!

This really is Edinburgh.

Not enough gets done unless some councillor or official 'likes' it - and then often after VAST amounts of volunteers' effort.

Then there's the 'someone complained' reactive nonsense.

3 or 5 years to get dropped kerb & double-yellows! Now I feel a bit happier that it 'only' took Spokes ("and it's Commie friends") 6 years to get Middle Meadow Walk opened to cycling way back in 1984. See page 3 of Spokes 119.

HP double yellow line update

The rather rough and ready entrance from Ogilvie Terrace direct to the canal (rather than the path into the Park) has recently been painted with double yellows as well - they now reach round the corner almost as far as where the dark blue car is in streetview. Given the presence of "no parking" cones, it looks like they might be going to be extended further west.

you folks in Shandon don't know how lucky you are compared to us in North Edinburgh when it comes to access to cycle routes. Here is asbysmal. Dropped kerbs? what are they???? Vehicles parked across access points all the time because there are no double yellow lines protecting them. Its a headache, not just for cyclists but for pushchairs and wheelchairs too.

Gembo - one of the reasons it took so long is that they were supposed to be dealing with all the park entrances at once. So that one ought to be sorted too. I totally agree about how appalling that access is. Will check it next time I'm over that way.

Amazing! Possibly the most famous drop- kerb in Edinburgh, what with Uberuce memorialising it in his blog and then it being toasted and libated with bubbly.

Thanks everyone who's supported this mini-campaign. I've lost track but I think it's been 3 years since I first raised it?

They really could do with installing dropped kerbs and protecting accesses to the NEN too. In Gosford Place no dropped kerb and no parking restrictions means getting onto the NEN can be difficult, even though the entrance is signposted from the road and looks official. Its not the only place where things could do with being sorted.

Iirc there was a man near saughton park used to paint his own yellow lines and the council eventually agreed on his take, think he may have had a disability and needed to park his car so the lines took a meander? This was a while back.

Given the state of the yellow line before the dropped kerb wouldn't 't take much paint to deter some people from parking there.

The one at Cultins rd to come off the canal almost always has a vehicle parked across it. The one at roseburn coming from the path through Murrayburn similar

I suspect (without any evidence whatsoever) that the pink aggregate will get better as it ages. Presumably at the start the pink pebbles have a certain amount of tar on them: as this wears off they will get pinker...

We'll have to see.

I think the pink aggregate works rather well. The problem with a lot of the cycle lanes is when the red stuff starts crumbling and being washed away it all becomes rather lumpy and makes for an uncomfortable ride.

I visited the boat/barge last week and filled in the form. The main point I thought of was the blocked access by parked cars. The consultation was suppose to be for Harrison Park East, but I mainly use HP West, I guess it's the same people.

Serious missed opportunity here -

Very recent pavement repair.

A dropped kerb c/should have been created.

It had been on another part of CEC's 'coming soon' list for a while.

It's not just about joined-up-thinking, more about thinking.

Turn left for Sustrans route - no dropped kerb
