&#60;p&#62;It's still far from clear how many routes/buses will use Princes Street if/when trams are running. &#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Assuming trams run, Princes Street won't be traffic free. &#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;There will be more danger to pedestrians if it's possible to believe that Princes Street is traffic  free - so best to be clearly bicycles and trams only!&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Once upon a time it was assumed that there would be no busses because they would terminate at Haymarket and the East End. &#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Once upon a time it was intended that Princes Street would be &#60;em&#62;bicycle&#60;/em&#62; free.

<description>&#60;p&#62;Agreed. The main benefit of pedestrianising Princes St would be views of the Castle/Old Town uninterrupted by buses. Perhaps a bit of milling around near the Galleries and the West End, but otherwise a lot of empty space to supplement the existing pavement and gardens.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;George Street would be a much more human, livable and useful space - shops both sides, cafe space, Assembly Rooms as centrepiece. A great open air public space for during the Festival...

<description>&#60;p&#62;More chance of George Street getting done than Princes Street, LB would get in a right twist about where to put all the buses. TBH i'm not really sure Princes Street would benefit much from pedestrianisation. Its a wide pavement and all the shops are on the same side, its not like people wander from side to side you either go to the shops or the gardens.

&#60;p&#62;The Greens advocated a fully pedestrianised zone with the tram being the only vehicle in Princes Street.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;The proposals were originally contained in the groundbreaking report by Gehl Architects, but whose recommendations have been largely removed from the political agenda since early last year. Among those used as a model was Copenhagen, which has the largest pedestrian network in the world.&#34;&#60;/p&#62;
