My pugsley is relatively 'sit-up+beg', the gearing is low and if I put the 29er wheels on it's mud-clearances are massive. With the fat tyres on it'll go anywhere with bags of grip and 'float' for the softer surfaces. I had a recent <a href="http://www.darkerside.org/post/21726929211/freecountryside">epiphany </a>when I realised that the Land Reform Act (Scotland) allow me to go almost anywhere I can see on the bike. As someone who used to live in England, this amount of freedom is staggering.</p> <p>I've been thinking about what the ideal bike for this 'point and go' type expedition would be. My tourer is willing, but just couldn't take the fat tyres needed for progress when it gets really muddy.
