no, but I cycled past a woman doing something to camera on MMW and wondered if it was cycle related. then forgot about it entirely (sleep deprivation)

Shesh Uberuce, that's pretty shocking. :/

SRD: Good work! And no serious injuries?!

off topic: SRD: Were you being interviewed last night for STV? I saw an STV van (with satellite dish) outside your building. I spoke to the guy guarding the equipment and he said it was something to do with cyclists? (he didn't know any more). I quickly put 2 and 2 together!

SRD - we managed to do exactly what you did. Extraction was fiddly and required a certain degree of force, but could be achieved without visible damage to the catch (although the stress probably shortened its life!).

A butterknife wasn't up to the task (chat to Uberuce about why this can be a Bad Idea™), and I seem to recall that a large blade flat screwdriver was involved...

Halfords sell re-badged Hamax seats (older designs with the older catch/buckle design, the first one I posted above), you might be able to replace the whole buckle/strap assembly with an older design if it will fit?

I only had to replace the strap/catch when I snapped one of the side prongs by pressing too forcefully. Got it from somewhere on the net, I forget where, maybe eBay/Amazon.

Yup, that one. didn't realise it was that new - got it v. cheap second hand!

I think you're probably right. Sigh.

that means that on POP we managed to break both the tagalong (Thanks DaveC for replacement parts) and the Hamax. quite a toll!

Yes, looks as though Hamax have introduced a new design recently. Is it one of these?

Looks a bit tricky! You're probably going to have to break off the middle tab somehow to get it free, without breaking the buckle.

Butter knife is EXACTLY what we tried :) great minds etc

It's slightly trickier than the one you picture though, because you don't just push in on the sides, but also down on the end/front, which is the bit not disengaging. I reckon new straps may be our only solution.

Okay, I've done that. I presume it is back to front, so the third prong of the catch is facing the wrong way?

If it won't release, try sliding a butter knife into the back of the buckle housing to free the middle prong, while pressing the other two in with your fingers.

If this doesn't release it, you'll have press harder with the knife, snap the middle prong off, remove the now less than optimally secure catch, and buy replacement straps. You could order from Evans for pickup in store:

We were in a rush to leave holyrood and catch up some cyclists heading towards Harrison park, who wanted extra numbers. I foolishly tried to strap the baby into the bikeseat, but not being used to the Hamax, I jammed the catch on the chest strap in upside down, and unlike most such catches, it only works in one direction. We've tried all sorts of things and can't get it out. Anyone have any clever ideas?
