I did pop to the supermarket later on, and noted that the bike parking outside the Meadowbank retail giant has had a facelift. Gone are the wheelbenders, replaced with a 'designer' Sheffield-type rack. Much more secure, still only space for six bikes though and no cover from the elements. I suppose they got fed up with folk locking their bikes to the drainpipes in preference to the wheel benders.</p> <p>Meanwhile, following the recent refurbishment of the store, cars got an extra four parking spaces right next to the front entrance. Maybe these are supposed to be disabled/family spaces, but everyone just uses them for going to the nearby ATM. As a result the bike parking is squeezed on the small bit of pavement between the new car parking and a trolley shelter.
