The journey back up was much more pleasant, little farmsteads and hills, rather than the flatter, larger farmss near the motorway. As it's the first time I've done it I'll probably stick to the Kinross route as I know what the roads are like. I actually don't mind cycling with traffic, even on 60mph A roads, as it keeps my legs motivated. Going through Kinross would seem more logical, then Cowdenbeath, etc. on quieter/minor roads.</p> <p>The issue is the approach from Perth, I presume. Some good minor roads north east of Glenlomond, towards Aucthermuchty. Problem is the A912, as there seems to way round using it if you're keen to avoid B996 and following the M90... After Gateside, you can go through Nether Urquhart and take the back road as far as Wester Balgedie.</p> <p>If you fancy some challenging climbs (but quiet roads) then go via Dunning. Nice descent down into Kinross. It adds a couple of miles, but is a bit less hilly.</p> <p>Has anyone cycled the route east of Loch Leven, and is there any reason why it wouldn't be a good idea? </p>
