Excuse me, do you mind if I pointlessly overtake you, before cutting you up 50 yards on at the traffic light which is at red?

I wish they would say that, then I could answer Yes, I do mind, I mind a great deal!

if I do speak to them usually it is just to tell them to have a nice day - it really galls them

and

It is ALWAYS a nice day for cycling.

Thank you thank you! I should be much less upset the next time it happens to me.

Ha ha! Well said wfb! True Scots grit!

Which reminds of the other thing drivers always say (usually when you meet them socially, out of their cars, not on the road).

"Oh, you wouldn't catch me out on a bike in this wind/rain/hail/frost/snow/fresh breeze/slightly chilly air/somewhat less than Mediterranean sunshine."

Man in pick-up truck with two other workmates in the cab shouting and gesticulating wildly and rudely at me that I should have stopped at a priority to oncoming traffic point - this was when I was more three-quarters down the length of it and they were at the bottom... i.e. nowhere to be seen when I started the manouevre - oh yes I forgot I am supposed to be clairvoyant too and should have known that he had just turned into Kingston Ave, where even with the best will in the world I could not have seen when I hit the give way. Doh!!

Other than being told on various and so many occasions that cyclists should not be allowed on the road - period. That I am holding up traffic and should not be on the road because I am too slow. I don't pay road tax. We are all pavement cyclists and red light jumpers, that is all of us.

I do try very hard not to engage in conversation with any burk that is in the ASL, runs red lights, drives really badly/erroneously...in fact I find it best just to wave at them and smile with the odd two's up or the give them the bird - or if I do speak to them usually it is just to tell them to have a nice day - it really galls them. I find giving them the opportunity to speak to you usually means you have to listen to the usual excrement/dogma/predjudices and I really cannot be bothered.

"You're supposed to keep over to the left"

That's what an ENews van driver said to me when the roundabout at the bottom of Broughton Street said when it still had the red 'cycle lane' round the outside.

CEC took it away (good thing too)>

STILL a very dangerous roundabout.

vi. Legally you have to wear a helmet to cycle don't you? (from my hairdresser but she is a driver)

vii. The drinking limit is the same for bikes as for driving (from an ex-cop, for the record there actually isn't a 'drink-riding' limit, but you can be done if, in the opinion of the h'officer, you are drunk in charge of a bicycle)

Trying to think of something that actually fits in better with the OP. There's the usual, "You're supposed to ride to the left" I guess.

2. You're allowed to load/unload on double red lines (nope!)
