DaveC - I use clear shower caps on my brooks, in a slight nod to carl hiassen ;-), but also for practicality.

I realise that in the "classy" stakes its rather sub-optimal, but on the other hand I am unbothered if its outside pub/shops as they are £1.49 for 10 on ebay !!

DaveC: Genesis put out the CdF this year, possibly with an eye on the Bike t'Work; it's the same idea, only they dropped the drivetrain and frame steel down a couple of notches to lower the price.

The aged saddles just have a aged look about them. My aged B17 is same stiffness as non-aged.

Odd result from the survey. I just did it again and go the 40%. Try again and this time be interested in bags.

Since I'm in the market for one of:

Brooks B17

B17S

B17 Aged

B17S Aged,

I did the survey too. It gave me a code to claim a 10% discount by the end of May. 40% would've been fantastic but I think I incurred the wrath of Brooks by mentioning that I also used one of those deviant recumbamental bikes.

Are the Aged saddles 'cheating'? Do they sag quicker? Or are they better than the ostensibly hard-as-nails new ordinary Brookses?

I do have the CdeF. It's the wrong time of year for driving bargains I suspect. New season, new tax year, new shiny C2W vouchers clutched in grubby hands. Summer beckons and the stocks of 2012 bikes are allocated. Mine plus tortec rack weighs 14.1kg.

Thats very kind Steve. So you have you're Croix de Fer in today? A collegue here is looking to get one but is struggling to get one under a grand. A shop in Killmarnock has one but he's trying to get a price match at Evans in Edinburgh. Glen was asking about the weight compared to my Cotic.

I'll be in there later inspecting their packaging. It's usually tucked under the saddle. Maybe some toe-rag nicked it while it was hanging up in the shop. When my new one comes you can have one of mine. Don't need three.

@Anth
The grips made of doughnuts of off-cut leather? I think those look quite scruffy. The smooth ones - very clever aluminium tubes wrapped in bar tape - are nice on an upright bike where there's not much pressure on your hands.

That's odd. I've got one with each saddle I've bought (three now). Lost one. I'd take that up with the seller. Very handy when the bike's on the car or stood out in the rain when camping. Tesco bags also work but don't have the same look.

It looks to me like they've grouped "sport" together, mtbs have never been a strong market for Brooks and they've not be default on racing bikes for many a long year, whilst Touring has remained their bread and butter. The question for them is probably:
[] Touring
[] Other

Besides it felt more like they were pushing their bags rather than their saddles and with that in mind neither roadies nor mountain bikers are know for their extensive use of luggage.

Maybe they don't see much of a market with either road or mountain bikes, so have grouped them together to get them out of the way? Does seem odd though, especially given how for me touring/trekking/utility/city/heavy duty are all the same bike.

They give you a little waterproof cover for them so there's no reason for it to get really wet from sitting out. You also get a little can of polish and after a few uses your bum will have polished it up to a fine shine.

@LivD
No, I suspect they don't give two hoots about the quality of the data. They're probably thinking that some data, some contact details and additional sales volume will make up for the discount. All without compromising their reputation for priceyness and quality. It's maybe all about second quarter cash flow (closes 21 June, just in time to get the books sorted for the start of Q3).

Very strange question in the survey about bike types:

What's the advantage of the narrow?

It's narrower! :)

I have both B17 and B17 narrow. I like them equally. I find the orignal to be comfier "without support" as I suppose it's your bum / glutes taking more of the strain. The narrow has less derrier support, a bit more like a modern-fangled racing saddle, but it's still hugely comfortable enough to leave you standing and not walking like John Wayne after 300k.

If you're thinking of getting anything Brooks, they're currently running a survey with the incentive that you get a log in to buy from their shop with a 40% discount. I'd give you the log in but it wouldn't really be fair.
