With yesterday's low sun I was already squinting and didn't realise it was part of the light sequence for the traffic coming up Annandale St.</p> <p>I cycled across wondering why the queue wasn't following me, and only realised what had happened when I saw the cross traffic in my mirror. It was at a big junction where I stopped to allow an oncoming cyclist to perform a right turn in front of me and by the time I was moving again the lights might have changed. She didn't tell me about it until 100 yds down the street.</p> <p>Why did we use the car for going to Edinburgh? Well I checked the train and it would have been more than £70 for 5 of us. It would be nice to think it was mostly going on cycling (but it won't be!). The Scottish Government's definition is, understandably, wide.</p> <p>"Sustainable Transport includes walking, cycling, public transport, car clubs, car sharing, eco-driving and low carbon vehicles. The purpose of promoting more sustainable transport is to minimise any negative environmental and social impacts of travel, whilst maintaining an efficient and effective transport system that supports sustainable economic growth. Increased proportions of sustainable transport will reduce transport emissions that contribute to local pollution problems and climate change.
