"How many points do I get for that?"

Given the fact that you have had a lot of time recently 'off the bike' - thousands!

Kirst - inspired by your tweet, I also tweeted the south team about the low-lying branches over the bike path side of Leamington Walk.

Any other overhung bike paths out there we should be bringing to their attention?

I've just tweeted the cooncil to let them know some kind soul has smashed a Heineken bottle across the path, between the tunnel and Duddingston Road West. Plus, decorated the wee bridge with lots of Heineken lids.

This morning as I was leaving the shared path in front of the Engine Shed to get onto Terrar's Croft, a bloke on a recumbent went past. He was well ahead of me in the tunnel but somehow I managed to overtake him, despite being heavily panniered. How many points do I get for that?

Forgot to mention - debris has been cleared but sadly the scraping has not been concluded, looks like that is our lot. Still a massive improvement though, thank you cooncil!

"But yes I'd forgotten about pesky friction"

I know what you mean, but whilst we may often try to reduce friction, the World would be a very different place without it. No doubt humans would not exist.

Don't think so chdot, mostly we rolled little cars with weights on down slopes with ticker tape behind them to see how far they went.
But yes I'd forgotten about pesky friction lol.

I think, on balance, heavier is better. Heavy, tucked as much as possible, on good bearings and skinny, rock hard tyres. The speed I overtook Kaputnik at wasn't down to him having a pannier and me not. That bulk's useful for something though what you gain on the downhill you certainly lose on the uphills.

Did you do air resistance/streamlining?

And rolling resistance - mostly tyre/surface, but also wheel bearings.

Best on blown-up slick tyres, with head down.

Would 'heavier' also create more friction, so once the slope levels out a bit then forward mementum is having to work harder?

Surely with this kind of thing, the heavier the bike is the further you'll go? Because once you've built up the momentum gravity will act better on the weight and keep you rolling on?
Or did I get my wires crossed during my physics lessons?

Yep, worth repeating, as Min said, that the actual clearing is great, and really opens up the route properly again - much nicer/safer for mixing pedestrians/dogs/cyclists/joggers.

But if a job's worth doing, it's worth doing in full...

Differnt bike wingpig (awaiting new, wider guards for the Kaff so I can bung on the CX tyres).

Actually, took this route this morning as the legs didn't feel up the the usual couple of climbs. The debris is quite bad, definitely worthy of caution on skinny tyres...

The Innocent path is being cleared of vegetation in advance this year instead of only doing it after it has been dangerously overgrown for months and people have been complaining for ages. In fact the stuff growing over at the side has been scraped away in some places revealing tarmac I never knew existed and making the path wider. Great stuff! I do hope they make a proper job of it and scrape the whole lot.

Word of warning for the slim of tyre though - so far a lot of the debris has been left scattered all over the path. I hope they clear this up.
