@Kaputnik Yep I'm taking. the cotic. Its going to be a fab day. Just wondering about swapping the Schwabe marathons for the Continental CX tyres. Not as puncture resistant but more grippy for the tracks.

This said it'll be a slow bimble as those riding are not as keen as the roadies I rode to St Abbs with.

It's a bit CX-y in places that path! But largely glorious.

If the route does indeed turn into a full road route - and if I can be excused the lack of training and suspected slowest-of-the-lot-of-you crown - I'm game for this...

Well, there's something really weird going on with it, but since it's been offered free I didn't make a fuss.

Looks like a normal bike, only instead of one cog, there's ooh, so many I lost count, and a further two odd little ones on a wee arm doofer slung underneath. Same sort of thing on the chainring, of which there are three.

I can only assume it's a handy means of storing them so you can swap them out if you need to raise or lower your inches, but I'd have thought it was easier just to keep them in a wee bag?

I'm now likely to acquire a Cannondale MTB tomorrow or Thursday, as a thank you for helping a pal move house. I still need to work at least four hours on Tuesday, but I can be done by 10.30 at the Gyle, so I'd be keen to rendezvous if the route's staying offroady.

The experience I have had with CCE based rides is that folk here will go at the pace of the slowest. At the weekend, my companions always seemed to let me catch up on the descents where my progress is painfully slow. And different folk were lagging at different times for different reasons.

The lesson learnt from Numptie and Uberuce is that we all probably have a bit more potential than we realise.

BTW - I won't be able to join you for an all day ride on Tuesday (two consecutive weekends of 100 miles rides makes this politically difficult) but might join you for part of the route somewhere.

May revert to a road route. Will contemplate and cogitate. I'm also now considering that I'm unlikely to be able to keep up with most on here over that distance - I've seen what you guys are like on a Hilly Tuesday.

"just keep going back and forth over Soutra until the group turns up" roughly translates as "hide behind a wall until you see the group approaching, then hop on the bike and cycle past with a cheery 'yeah, just on my sixth Soutra'" ;o)

PS: "just keep going back and forth over Soutra until the group turns up" Reminds me of the two Kilrenny blokes who made themselves wings and climbed the church tower. First one turns to the second and says, "I'll just go out and hover until you're ready".

Ah, good point re the Cross friendly bike issue, Tom. That is very much in the n+1 category for me at the moment.

I could do it on the tourer that I used for #Anthsride, but it'll have been the best part of a month since I had my road bike out for a decent spin, so I'd want to use that. If needs be, I suppose I could always divert by road to the end point of any rough sections... or just keep going back and forth over Soutra until the group turns up. 8-)

I'll be free on the 5th for a big ride. Soutra's a good climb (from the west) - you could probably incorporate it in a to Innerleithen and back 100 miler where its steepness would be a killer :) , or there's to Duns and back. There's hills everywhere though.

I've got Tuesday 5th June to myself - other half is at work, and I'm jealous of the St Abbs riders...

Have plotted a route that would only really be cross bike friendly (around 35 miles or so off-road, the bit from Hopes Reservoir to Carfraemill being really really cool but on rough-ish hardpacked 4x4 track - though truth be told I could easily drive my Mini down it...).

Anyway, there are a few places I've always wanted to ride (like over Soutra) and pondering throwing in a few things like this.
