Wow, a multiplex full of spotty kids and a TGI Fridays. And I have to drive to it?

Well its almost tempting me away from a stroll to The Dominion, followed by our choice of nice local restaurants.

Planners = Buffoons

I wonder when Prof Towers went there himself, if ever. Doncha just love social commentators, telling us what it should be like!

So FK is for people who live close by and will walk and cycle ...well no, just think if they buy anything, how are they going to get it home...by car, of course.

We used to go to FK and the B&Q and stuff by bus and foot. Ridiculously inconvenient and unpleasant.

Good reason for a railway station...

Oh it's got one.

No trains on a Sunday.

Or a shuttle bus.

"
Professor Neil Towers, Deputy director of research at the School of Management and Languages, at Heriot-Watt University.

Fort Kinnaird will be able to offer people in east Edinburgh something they currently have to travel for, and that’s a good thing for consumers because competition will lead to the best experience.

"

So FK is for people who live close by and will walk and cycle??

yup FK is our local and its a nightmare for peds and cars TBH.
There is bike parkng, though its pretty rubbish.
Theres weedy racks at the corner opposite boots, round the side of Comet. Think theres some by PC world.
From a selfish point of view,a cinema would be handy for taking the boy to kids films :o

Personally I find Fort Kinnaird unappealing in every way. There is no bike parking, the car parks are a veritable nightmare as the planners seemed to forget that once out of your car you become a pedestrian and it is not a pedestrian friendly area. There are three parts to it, two adjoined by one crossing, and the third around a couple of roundabouts and out of the way. Wickes moved out of the third site due to lack of business, with B&Q next door. The previous cinema complex shut for obvious reasons, so really cannot understand why the planners think that it will be any different. As one reader points out the place is built inside out.

I wonder what has happened to the planned expansion at Danderhall/Edmonstone - the talk was of lots of housing and an hotel/conference centre. This would be just up the road from FK and encroaching on green belt land, but hey ho, that's ECC for you. Potential customers? What about car parking for all those residents? More traffic out in east Edinburgh just to add to the misery that is Sherriffhall and the Gilmerton Rd/Dobbies route. I love it.

Perfect. Just what is needed to go along with the half-a-tram to Princes Street.

So the last cinema there was apparently less valuable than car parking.

A NEW cinema complex and department store are set to be built on the outskirts of the Capital, the Evening News can reveal today, as Fort Kinnaird goes to war with Ocean Terminal in a battle to attract new shoppers.
