Ah. Clearly it requires more metal/weight, ie. a tandem or tagalong! We haven't had any problems.

The current junction is fine though it is an 'on road' traffic light junction with signals for Seafield Street

Except as I demonstrated last Saturday the detector doesn't always pick up cyclists, I only managed to make my turn by doing a left-hand on red when Sustrans man pressed ped crossing button to make similar maneouver coming from opposite direction...

@Wingpig - Ah, I'd read it as a ramp and something else called a DDA, not a DDA-, and cycle-, friendly ramp.

Clearly not firing on all cylinders, as I was once a DDA expert!

"there's currently no budget in current plans to so something about linking up the pedestrian crossing from Seafield Street to get across onto the shared use pavement on other side"

It would be nice to get the Leith Links (and onward routes) connected to the Porty promenade, or even try to find a safe way of getting into Craigentinny from the shared use pavement on Seafield Road, which currently necessitates an interesting rush-hour right turn. Some positive progress though- thanks for the info.

Disability Discrimination Act. Ramps have to be friends with it. Old steppy-ramp was not.

Sustrans man told me that a new ramp will also be built at the far end to replace the rotten wooden stairs / wheel run, but there's currently no budget in current plans to so something about linking up the pedestrian crossing from Seafield Street to get across onto the shared use pavement on other side, just past the level crossing. We both agreed this was somewhat short sighted.

The current junction is fine though it is an 'on road' traffic light junction with signals for Seafield Street. You just go on green like a car, then there are two dropped kerbs to choose from to get onto the nice wide shared use path. Seafield Street is very quiet, I've seen a couple of cars waiting there and one bus. Allegedly bin lorries occasionally go up there too. The current access from further up the path to Easter Road/:Leith Walk emerges onto the bus turning circle and is great, though obviously not direct for those coming from Leith Links.

I took a photo at the weekend and got chatting to a chap from Sustrans who had also turned out to take a photo of progress.

A large DDA and cycle-friendly ramp / embankment is under construction behind all the fencing on what used to be part of the community orchard (being replanted I believe) and a wider, non-stepped bridge will be built too. I think they are also going to widen the bridge at the crematorium. Muddy / rutted / overgrown trackbed will also be cleared and properly surfaced.

I have been away from civilisation for some time: could anybody tell me what will replace the now demolished pedestrian bridge at "Mother Aitkins" (Leith Links). The nice ramp in construction behind the community orchard looks vaguely bike-friendly.
