Going to see The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp at the GFT on Friday.

I will take the bike in with me…

It will fall over when folded as one of its ears rusted through and fell off but it's the one with generator lights. I have a real Brompton battery tail light for the S6L waiting at the Post Office but they're only open from 0800 - 1300 hrs.

Given the tipping down-ness of the weather, and the proximity of my work to the Filmhouse, I think I'm going with option 2 to save the bike sitting out in the rain.

I use railings/whatever there is nearby. Maybe I should make an effort to use stands more, however they tend to be "out of the way" rather than in useful places.

Those new rings affixed to lamp-posts are good though!

Yeah, the stands near the Usher Hall are good, handy for Lyceum. For some reason though I always lock up at the railings if I venture into Filmhouse. Maybe we cyclists are just a bit lazy like drivers? (Controversial hat on).

I left my bike chained up at the Sheffield stands on t'other side of the road from the Filmhouse (between Nandos and the Usher Hall when I was at the New Order gig last month. No problem at all.

I'd always leave my bike on a proper bike stand (if available and convenient) rather than attached to railings on the use-it-or-lose-it principle and to avoid the "why are we asting money on cyclists when they don't bother to use the infrastructure we put in for them?" questions.

"If that's really a problem, which I doubt, is it not, then, a problem in lots of other situations?"

Added for comedic effect... ;)

I suspect it would be fine on a school night anyway. On vomiting and knifing nights I would feel a bit more worried about it.

If you have a decent lock, I wouldn't worry. I've had similar dilemma, but then left it locked twice outside Filmhouse in recent months, with no bad effects.

Option 1: I've left mine at the Filmhouse many times during the evening (though very rarely for the past two years); safer-feeling than the Cameo racks. That Pedersen seemed to remain unmauled during the #POP28 flyering season. The pavement's too busy for anyone to get too suspicious and with it being EIFF season there'll be plenty of barking tubes standing outside smoking and dissuading anyone from lingering too long for fear of their ears and breathing-pipes.

I've always had a dislike of leaving the bike locked up on Lothian Road though - is that justified???

Depends how nickable the bike is: personally I wouldn't want to leave anything too fancy on those railings.

Meeting some friends at the Filmhouse straight from work today and in a "what's the best option for then riding home" dilemma...

one
Get changed as normal and lock bike up outside Filmhouse (from about 5.30 till about 9ish)

two
Get changed as normal, leave bike locked up at work and walk the few minutes to the Filmhouse looking like a nonce who has lost his bike

three
Go in suit, come back to office late and get changed and cycle home

Option one is my favourite cos I can just hop straight on the bike and be away. I've always had a dislike of leaving the bike locked up on Lothian Road though - is that justified???
