I always take quite a dominant line there near the edge of the bus lane when I pass the junction heading zoo-wards since the junction itself doesn't seem to be parallel to the road. It seems to clip in at the far kerb and the painted lines don't give you much of an accurate guide.

I have been known to pull into the main lane of traffic when not sure a vehicle would be stopping...

Balgreen Road junction was always my least favourite bit of that road. Lots of quick right turning as drivers try to cut across traffic to get onto Balgreen Road or hurried lefts to join the traffic on Corstorphine Road. Was never 100% sure that drivers had seen me or wouldn't take the chance. Hope the bloke's OK.

Min: the very same thought hadn't escaped me but I hadn't articulated it in my earlier post. There's always a reasonable number of cyclists travelling either way along that road, particularly around peak times.

Also posted here: Cyclist down - Corstorphine Road

It's certainly the third I can recall straight off. One unfortunate death further down towards Murrayfield at the start of the year and two knocks off around the same mile/mile and a half stretch of road since April.

Isn't that the third major incident in that area in recent months?
