I think that they think it is finished...

Edinburgh Trams confirmed to me a year ago that:

"At present there are no proposals to install chicanes or other speed limiting devices. The crossing itself will be unsegregated and tactiles will be installed at either side of this crossing. I confirm that a Strail crossing will be adopted at this location."

This is why the concrete works have finished.

Problem is that the Broomhouse Path hasn't been finished yet. Lots of work still to be completed beneath the bridge opposite Macro, and they've not yet put in the crossing point to reach the still-fenced-off shared use path at Bankhead which heads through the underpass towards Edinburgh Park. It has a sign to indicate it's the bike route crossing, but it's still non-existent!

Is it worth resurrecting this thread now that the Trambles are nearly finished...

Haymarket Yard and Broomhouse Path are 2 areas that have been popping up on other threads as 'finished' problem areas.

Could be good to collate all the examples in one place.

highlights the complete and utter disregard with which this project and the council in general treat cyclists

It certainly does.

Surely its time for Spokes to cease commending CEC with positive reinforcement for their aspirational vision and yet subsequently appalling third rate cycling infrastructure.

@Tom. Given the stunned silence (24 hours without a post to this thread after I made my previous contribution), I think it's best if I leave that question unanswered.

@Roibeard: it's not only cows that can do that. It's a useful genetic ability that I've inherited from my father. I can wipe my nose without taking my hands off the handlebars. (I just have to try to remember not to do it while anyone is watching, as for some reason they seem to find it a bit distasteful...)

For any geneticists out there, it's interesting that my daughter can also do it (but my son can't), my brother and three of his four children can do it and oddly one of my cousins can do it too, but she is not related to my father at all. There's obviously an unspeakable mixture of recessive nose-licking genes in my extended family.

De-personalising and keeping my nose clean... ;)

George Street could be a fab urban space, a true haven in the city. Don't need to 'force' cafe culture in a set-up like that. Loads of other European cities have areas like that. Certainly Paris, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Lyon, Turin, Rome (if I remember correctly), Barcelona... Madrid does to an extent (Plaza de Oriente is lovely). And most other wee towns and cities I've kicked about in France, from what I can gather much of Germany is the same.

Princes Street Gardens is like that, but thinking more of places where people can shop, and stroll, and drink, and just hang out and mingle. Without road noise. Without hitting a button to cross. Seriously, George Street is tailor-made for this, utterly perfect. It's one of the things that would make it into the 'top ten things to do' at the beginning of a Lonely Planet or Rough Guide. But not just for tourists, it would serve locals so so well as well.

But hey, where would all those people park.

I'm tended to agree with the George St. preposition. Leave Princes to the heavies and pedestrianise/cycle lane George St, its not that far out the way, it would much more pleasant and if you're really in a hurry you can still blast along Princes street being mindful of the tram tracks.

"We should have a separate bicycle phase at every set of traffic lights"

Works in Copenhagen. It would be nice to have a 'Green Wave' like they (amongst others) have as well.

We should have a separate bicycle phase at every set of traffic lights. Like pedestrians already have.

Wouldn't it be amazing if they had ASL lights for bikes only that gave us a headstart over the trams for this section? Wouldn't solve the narrowness problem, or what to do if all the lights are green as you approach, but might make the motorised users of the road give us time to navigate the dangerous bit.

I hope you don't mind kap but I spotted a mistake with one of your images. Don't know how that bike symbol got in there but it's fixed now:
