Oh that looks like the same thing that keeps happening to me. Half your post vanishes over to the right hand side.

Bike looks nice though. I like the fuzziness in the pic, kind of gives it an angelic aura.

Its a Genesis Altitude 10. My phones camera is hopeless, it has a light range more narrow than an Edinburgh bike lane. I'll get a better pic another day

Cycle scheme voucher arrived yesterday so went and picked up my new girl, just in time really my old mtb is shaking it self to pieces. Put the slicks on it and went heading for pot holes between good shocks and the nice steel frame it copes with Edinburgh roads better than the old mtb with its cheap aluminium frame.

Well we were acting as custodians. He walked in looking for a rack one day and asked for it to be fitted then wandered off...

he then sent a man to pick it up for him,

We do not sell such beasts. No idea where it came from but i assume Gant or somewhere.

It left holes in the floor due to its immense weight!

thebikechainThat bike sat in our shop for 10 days awaiting it's owner to pick it up. 'Vast' describes it size.
Horrid ride. Really really wobbly and brutally hard work.
Looks great though.

That's fashion brands for you! It seems to be a tie in with Gant Clothing.

"I am noticing more continental and retro style bikes around"

There is one advertised in the most recent EBC flyer, which looks nice, until i checked out its weight and saw that it weighs more than my current bike!

I was also looking at the Ridgebacks after trying one courtesy of the bike station. Don't know which model they showed me, but the 'metro' that pops up on their website and which looks _very_ nice is £700! and doesn't give a weight.

Perhaps you should stop cycling for a bit...

"It was in the early 1990’s when we started riding bikes, specifically for my husband’s health. His couch potato life style was literally killing him."

"I want a new bike .......
... but my other half wants a pension plan"

I think a new bike would be a much better investment.

Its value WILL go down (gradually) with use - but you'll have many pre-pension years of better health and (perhaps, given these uncertain times) the chance of a better job helped by your above average alertness and fewer days off sick...

The 'real' value of pensions is likely to degenerate further.

I'm sure there was a time when regular payments into a pension scheme would (almost) guarantee a reasonable income in old age, I think it's clear that those days are over - unless you are 'important' enough to be given absurd amounts of money for your 'pension pot' when you are shown the door...

Most people's best 'pension' is probably their house (if they can afford to buy one). The value of this doesn't really depend on the state of 'the market'. If the price of your house goes down, so does the cost of the next one you might want to buy.

In retirement sell up and move to a smaller house. Perhaps even rent one and spend the cash while you are fit enough to enjoy it.

Meanwhile do the sums - buy the best bike you can afford, trading off costs (especially running costs - expensive bikes can have expensive parts that wear out...) and put bus/car savings on the + side PLUS put a healthy cost benefit on 'wellbeing'.

Well yesterday I saw Min and the first thought that went through my head was 'gorgeous'.

I was looking at her new Surly of course. Tis a lovely looking beast - but then I've liked Surly for a long long time.

Sigh, all this new bike talk. I've got the cash now to send my 30s Sunbeam off for its respray, so in a couple of months, once it's all built back up and so on, I'll have my own shiny new/old bike to show off...

Anyone know if Eastside Bikes are still operating, or if I'll have to send it to Mercian directly?
