A HOMEOWNER in the flood-hit Stockbridge Colonies has told how he warned contractors of the risk days before the Water of Leith burst its banks.

Four times as many homes and firms risk flooding in the next 20 years if the UK does not prepare for climate change, a government advisory panel has said.

I cycled along the Broughton path this morning, and stopped at the bridge where you took your photograph chdot. The water was lower but I'd guess only a foot or 2 below the level where it will overspill into the area where the excavator is on your photo.

@Arellcat - love your photos - as to the Dean Village weir steps being impassable I walked up them in that state last year and posted a video of it somewhere. I also cycled through the Roesburn cliff part of that flood though it was possibly anything up to 4 inches lower than the shots on this thread (at least I think I could see the middle bar on the fence which last Thursday I saw was covered in grass.
Wish I had been out to see the power of the flood for myself but was minding the kids that week and away this weekend. Good to see some shots of it as all they news did was a brief shot of the colonies...
I stand corrected it was lower
But still pretty cool

Anyone see the report on the BBC, somewhere in Englandshire?

Couple of folk shown cycling through the flood water. The reporter makes a comment along the lines of, "Some people are even trying alternative means of transport".

(Hmm, doesn't seem to bad now I've typed it, but it felt a bit more lunatic-fringe-activity-cyclists at the time)

The concrete flood defences along Warriston Road were well within capacity, but further east along Warriston Crescent by the railway bridge the temporary steel pilings weren't high enough, so the WoL had flowed over them, and back-flooded the other side of the concrete wall.

"

A flood prevention scheme, costing £11.5m, is currently underway in the area and locals have told Forth News part of an old wall had been removed before new defences were put in place.

Sandbags had apparently been put in place to try to plug the gap but they failed to hold back the fast-flowing water.

Down in London playing ambulance with the crowds at the Hyde Park festivals. Nowhere near as damp as up north, but we're certainly pulling some muddy people out of the crowd. Expecting today to be worse, as yesterday will have already ruined the surface.

Not long back from a cycle. Mainly down the Water of Leith. A bit wet.

Justin Clarke, CEO of Taste Festivals said: “As Billy Connolly said – there’s no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing. Make sure you are kitted out in your wellies and your party
socks

There's also such a thing as siting your festival at the lowest and most flood-prone point of the Meadows, a location from which natural drainage is very slow and there's nowhere else really to try and pump the place dry.

Same view after a deluge previous week;

Even a few hours of rain normally turns that bit into a marsh...
