Consequently people mostly seemed to wait patiently for them at the side of the road. It was noticeable when I moved to Edinburgh that an unexpectedly large number of folk seemed to prefer to launch themselves casually into the traffic, and I figured that this was because of the long waits one had to endure at Edinburgh's pedestrian crossings before a green man would consent to light up. Sounds like Glasgow has gone backwards.
