Glasgow CTC do specific family runs. They only do one or two a year and the last one I planned to go on was rained off.

PortoVelo organised some family rides. However I didn't attend the last one I saw advertised as it was a 'drive to a railway path on the other side of the city for a safe family ride' type event. Rather missed the point of cycling I thought!

I'm not sure what CTC Lothians policy is but I imagine the short rides might be suitable: you don't have to stay for the whole 20 miles.

CTC rides down here only state that under 12s must be accompanied and unaccompanied under 16s need their parents' permission. I'd say it was up to the parent to decide if their kid can take the pace (and have a plan to bail out if necessary). A confident and keen 5 year old on a decent bike can out cycle many adults over a short distance, in my experience of doing the Dumfries family rides.

I've taken a trailer on CTC rides. They were fairly surprised at someone on a Brompton and even more so at the trailer with two kids but nobody said I couldn't take it.

I asked earlier (on here) if kids in seats/tandems could go on rides that said 'no under 16s' and was told emphatically not; that people did not want to go cycling with children.

The easycycle shortride advertised here that K. could do easily (12 miles) says explicitly no under 16s.

We were hoping to do PfS (albeit probably on the tandem), but its not going to be feasible because of my work travel.

Can you be more specific?

There have always been rides with age limits on the basis that younger children 'might not be able to keep up'.

Are there ones that ban children even if in trailers and kids seats?

Of course there are people who want rides without children.

There was a YouTube video of a boy (5 or 6) who cycled PforS a few years ago - on his own bike.

Following the links in other threads, I notice that there appear to be no rides I can go on without leaving my kids at home - except the sky rides.

I don't necessarily expect/want to go on 'family' rides ie ones in which every other participants also has kids there. Just normal rides. Am I alone in this?

Luckily I'm not actually keen on organised rides, and quite happy to do my own thing. But would like to at least try a group ride and see what it was like, rather than being ghettoised.
