I used to live in Leicester, it has a strong car culture down there and a city centre which is constantly battling to survive against the out of town shopping parks that generate vast amounts of extra traffic. It has a reasonable network of quiet roads and cycle paths ideal for getting around quickly by bike so cycling has an extremely important role to play but with many returners to cycling desperately needing practical advice, help and even inspiration to get them started. The first wave of 'SKY rides' happened in Leicester and my friends there say they are very enjoyable. They said it really felt like cycling was gathering momentum and this gave some hope for the city's future.
