Yes, just three.

The first one is a short wheel base M6R. It has all the winter stuff like Marathon Plus tyres, SON hub, Edelux light and a Brooks. They only made short wheel base M bars when I got it in 2001. It was a 12 speed with a Schlumpf for a few years but after I broke it the second time I ditched the idea. The Brompton BWR set up now has almost the same range for less weight and drag.

When I put the car off the road with a busted water pump in 2006 I got the S6L which is a bit faster than the first one and I find it more comfortable. It probably gets the most mileage. It's nicer to ride than the M6R and it can go out in the rain.

Then about a year ago I lost a stone and half so I could fit my kilt to go to a wedding. It made sense to get the superlight because there was less of me to slow it down. It's the best of the three to ride, partly because it's faster but also because it's simpler with its wee two speed set up. One gear for hills and starting off and the other gear for everything else.

The memsahib can tell what the weather will be like by checking the downstairs toilet for a bike. If it's gone then there is no forecast for rain that day.

Conan does spoof front pages for the Hootsmon.

@chdot - OK not GG's Granny but well she was a very formidable woman of mature years with a strict voice and floral print dress. The brompton looked like it had taken some punishment.

@folds - how many bromptons are you up to now? 3? I love that as with roadies you have a fast one you only take out in the dry weather. I spotted your blog has a follower called Conan The Librarian who looks like a woodwork teacher in castlemilk that I know who also does stand-up comedy in his spare time

@wee folding bike: I'm very disillusioned, there's not a hinge in sight on that trike. Its nice though.

Nice trike, I thought I saw a guy on one when I was killing dandelions in my garden tother night and chanced to look down to the Water of Leith Walkway. On closer inspection it was a guy pushing two bikes (I had seen two 700mm back wheels and only one at front but the other had been obscured by foliage. Germaine Greer's Granny was on my train back from Stirling tonight with a very folded Brompton

Laidback,

It's a 1995 Longstaff Two Wheel Drive. The frame is 531DS, the groupo is mostly Campag Chorus with ErgoPower levers and the Racing T triple chainset. The cantis are Campag Record OR.

I used it as my main scoot from '95 to about '01. Click on the picture and it will take you to a gallery of three photos of the Longstaff.

One of the bikes at Dreams on Wheels in the Botanics last year had a natty tennis racket holder on the fork, and I've heard that sometimes bike wheels are/were carried in that location too.

That wheel looks huge... must be the angle. In fact all three wheel in the pic look different sizes.

My trike has a 28" track so a 700C fits on the luggage rack between the wheels.

Need picture - have you mentioned this before or have you been hiding trikes from the forum. You know that's not allowed ;-)

Job done, took about 20 minutes longer than normal just taking my time along the canal. Forgot to take into account the effect of Edinburghs lunar landscape on the elastic bungies so i went along the canal since its much smoother.

I once rode home with a bike (sans wheels) strapped to a rucksack which I was wearing. I can't remember ever having more room - and a black bike at that ;-)

On the other hand, I also tried cycling from the office to the station (on cycle path) with kayak paddles across the handlebars, hit a lamp post and dumped myself on the verge, so YMMV!

Looks feasible.

I lost some shopping off my tandem last week. Broke 5 eggs. Beer was ok. Strap broke on an old canvas bag. Some friends happened to be passing and scooped it off the road.
