Expecting drivers (and some cyclists) to know and actually observe the highwaycode is a complete waste of time.</p> <p>Over the summer a driver slowed down as I exited his street and told me I should be on the path. When I pointed out that <a href="http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTransport/Highwaycode/DG_069837">Highway code rule 64</a> states cyclist are not allowed on the pavement, he looked puzzled and his wife had to dig him in the ribs and tell him to leave me alone!</p> <p>Perhaps drivers and adult cyclists should be allowed on the road only after passing a multiple choice test on the Highway code annualy? The sheet of water reflected the newly cloud-free sun straight into my eyes. (I don't usually bother with sunglasses even at the height of summer.)</p> <p>I was on MMW before my eyes readapted to normal. </p>
