Yes, seems so. No surprises there then.

I can't believe Scot Gov are plcing so much faith in the high speed rail link. Fantasy transport planning if ever I saw it!

The Infrastructure and Capital Investment Committee's report on the Budget is now available, as an annex to the Finance Committee's full report. You neeed to scroll down to para 142 for the active travel stuff:

http://www.scottish.parliament.uk/parliamentarybusiness/CurrentCommittees/57606.aspx

Anyone unused to reading officialese might think this load of old cobblers, but it is actually fairly strongly worded. Of course, the Scottish Government has not acted on the Committee's recommendations in previouis years. Stil, you never know.

I wouldn't mind so much if they actually spent the budget wisely rather than spend cash on rubbish cycle lanes that don't help anyone.

While I'm ranting - what's with those sign posts next to the QBC with a wee blue cyclist sign on? What are they supposed to achieve?

It's that time of the year again. John Swinney has announced an extra £6m for cycle infrastructure over two years (this year and next). Obviously better than nothing, but not exactly a lot of money in the big scheme of things.

The "Support for sustainable and active travel" budget line falls from £35m in 2013/14 to £19m in 2014/15 - although some of this is due to much of the expenditure being on the Glasgow Fastlink bus and Fife Park and Ride site which are currently under development.

The Cycling, Walking and Safer Streets budget falls from £6.1m in 2012/13 to £5.6m in 2013/14 and rises to £8.2m in 2014/15.

Certainly no step change in funding - it's difficult to tell from the figures available whether this represents any real change in Scottish Government expenditure on cycling between this year and next - as the cycling budget is mixed in with other expenditure. At best I would say that expenditure is holding steady.
