A couple of others cycle a handful of days in the year. Cycling from Airdrie into the city centre I'd usually only see 3-4 other people on bikes. I don't buy excuses of weather, hills or traffic. If you watch films of 50 yrs ago lots of people were cycling to work. I don't think the weather or hills have changed and traffic isn't that big a deal. I don't tell people how much better cycling is unless they ask. I'm in two minds about the performance art thing. Usually I'd be in Gorbals on a Sunday but not this weekend. The only time you see an number of cyclist in Glasgow, they are all pedalling as fast as they can in the general direction of Edinburgh. We'd love to see you there, and there are a couple of other cycling-oriented events coming up you might be interested in. *** This Saturday! *** WANTED: 111 cyclists to perform ‘Eine Brise’ (‘A Breeze’) by avant-garde Argentinian composer Mauricio Kagel. Date: Saturday 29th May 2010 Rehearsal: 13:30h Performance: 15:00h – 16:00h Location: Glasgow Green Kagel described A Breeze as a Transient Action For 111 Cyclists. The cyclists are organised into a cohort approximately 5 metres wide by 150 metres long. As they approach, cycle past, and draw away from spectators along their route they perform a defined sequence of specified Sound Events (ringing of bells, whistling, singing, flutter-tongue sounds, wind noises). The action itself is over within minutes. This event is to launch Olly & Alex's cycle to the Arctic Circle, following in the tyre tracks of James Duthie, in aid of the National Deaf Children's Society.
