Yes Nelly, you point out a flaw which takes us back to the original objection. They will work in summer early autumn late spring but rest of time your will need to have waterproof / wind proof gloves over the top of them thus making electronic bell ringing difficult. You could opt for saying, ding, ding, I am sorry I can't get my gloves off to work my bell app so I am simulating the noise with my own voice, have a nice day, ding ding

"David Hembrow did an app that went on your phone based on a traditional Dutch Bell. You'd need a smart phone mounted on your handlebar, but assuming you already did that then it would effectively weigh nothing "

<Take off glove>
<Unlock phone>
<Locate Dutch bell app>
<Start app>
<Press Ring Bell button>

Can't really see that working!

I need a new bell. I had one of the small EBC ones with a dinger you flick with a thumb, but the dinger broke off. I need a proper bringbring one, I think. I gave my last one to my friend Colin's little boy for his kiddie seat so he could ring a bell with each hand as his dad pedalled. :-D

Mount underneath the bar for bonus utilisation of bar space.

I've got a wee pinger (oer) that I position on the crossbar but it isn't very effective at getting people's attention.

My old bike has a traditional dring-dring bell on it. It has a picture of Minnie Mouse on it and it works very well thank you. Very nice too.

If I was buying one now I'd go for the Widek Ding Dong bell. Loud and lovely.

It's just a bell. It's not a fancy Japanese brass designer fixie trixie bell. But it works. It costs than a fiver too.

Yep, I've got one of those rotating bell things on my new Fuego - you rotate a knurled thumbwheel to make it go Ping... I think it is actually very effective, and haven't been aware of any resonance/ vibration from it yet.

I've gotten around this problem with 2 bells by mounting them vertically on the headtube or stem, rather than horizontally. The dinger still flaps up and down on rough surfaces or when you hit a pothole, but it flaps harmlessly into the air most of the time.

Yesterday morning I took off my funky Pylones bike bell from the commuter, and oh, what rapturous joy, a cycle to work not accompanied by a constant poor-surface-induced dinging.

That's the second bell I've removed because of that - my first was a gorgeous Sogreni number.

I'm thinking I'm going for form over function in the bell stakes to be honest, and should maybe set my sights at a more utilitarian level. That said, in the few months the latest was on the bars I think I've used it 2 or 3 times. So maybe I'll just no bother...
