A bit of idle curiosity finds that the average airbag inflates at 200mph. Apparently one of the main airbag injuries is among 'experienced' drivers (beginners don't do it!) who are crossing their hands on the wheel during a turn - they end up breaking their teeth and nose using their own broken arms. Nice.

Which puts the Kindle into 'certain death' category.

I was quite surprised myself. All I did was write an e-mail to the taxi firm (the logos were plastered all over the cab) and the licencing department.

The cab firm got back to me very promptly. The taxi driver responded to my complaint with a load of lies which I calmly pointed out to be utter tosh (again by e-mail) and the Taxi firm accepted my word. I think the taxi drivers (very) long winded response full of lies was the final nail in his coffin.

BikeCam. Quite sad really that it comes to that - but I do find a knock-on effect is that I don't worry so much about things, I know I can go back to the video later, and get things more 'official' if needed.

Lionfish - if I remember this correctly it was by being a passenger rather than a cyclist. Reports of dangerous driving by cyclists can be safely disregarded.

@lionfish @Lezzles - That's pretty impressive.
I reported a taxi driver for pulling a tazer on me years ago when I was pedicabbing and nothing came of it. Police didn't seem bothered despite it being classed as a firearm.

"I got a taxi driver suspended..."

how? I've reported dangerous/threatening taxi drivers a few times (e.g. punishment passing, and bumping the back wheel of Lyndsey's bike while she was waiting at a red light, and once when one got out possibly to punch me - I cycled off), and each time after they're "interviewed" they tell a different story "I was getting out to investigate what a noise was and didn't see the cyclist you're referring too" - i.e. barefaced lies. Did you have photographic evidence or similar? Or did you take it via the police? Basically how do you overcome the "it's their word against mine" problem?

I got a taxi driver suspended recently for putting a head torch on and reading through a sheaf of A4 papers while driving up Liberton Brae. Frankly stupid behaviour.

I've seen a driver juggling an A4, lever arch binder on top of the steering wheel. In morning rush hour, east-bound on Portobello Road.

I'm sure the Kindle is as much of a distraction, but at least is doesn't actually obscure the steering wheel!

I didn't get a photo of my idiot, though...

Definitely worthy of reporting before she kills someone with her car and herself with her kindle (decapitation by airbag-propelled kindle would certainly make a headline).

"Might have been reading a map, or turn-by-turn instructions. Some of you may perhaps have done that while driving...."

Nope, I passed, and was re-passed, by her enough times to know that that definitely wasn't the case (+ doesn't excuse it anyway, and no, I've never done that - I stop, take in the next few instructions, restart - if I get lost I wait until I can stop safely to re-check or re-route)

Good grief.
I agree, the police need to know about this. Everyone needs to know about this lunatic.

My colleague suggests that if she does hit something, the airbag will propel the kindle straight at her at high speed.
