I "sped" up the bus lane from Gilmerton Road, Minto Street, etc past solid traffic the whole way, then sped past the log jam outside the Dick Vet too.

Lovely bit of bicycle permeability...

I met a right turning cyclist coming out of Melville Terrace as I switched from filtering on the offside to rejoin the cycle lane. Such a joy to make eye contact, sweep round each other and continue through the traffic chaos!

cb, I also dislike ice a lot.

Last week coming down Lanark Road I realised that the car behind me had been the same car for a while and was beginning to feel a bit concerned that they'd been "stuck" there for too long. Then we hit a queue of traffic and I disappeared up the inside and never saw them again.

I was more enthused about cycling this morning compared to yesterday due to the higher temperature.

Never like it so much when there is a risk of ice.

Both!

Had to leave the bike at work last night. Was going to meet the family at Meadowbank for fireworks last night, but the youngest had started puking so I got a bus there and watched the fireworks with the oldest.

The followed a night of vomit.... (not mine)

"Amazing the effect a wee drop of rain has on the numbers driving. You'd think folk were made of sugar and were afraid they might dissolve on contact with water."

Yeah, that's what I put it down to - looked nasty first thing, starting to feel dark in the mornings when it's like that, must take car. And I think that's an accumulation of people who would normally walk, cycle and take the bus.

Whereas, like I say, my journey time still doesn't really change, and I get the added time to warm up and dry off in the office, sup a coffee and feel relaxed. I have had people say to me, "You still cycle when it's raining?" as if it's pure sulphuric acid pouring down from the heavens.

@Coxy, was the lack of relaxation down to the ill kids or the driving? ;)

Indeed it was. I narrowly avoided a dooring and crashing into some kids as I happened to have slowed to crawl to negotiate a sunken, water-filled drain cover when school run parent gave up waiting and discharged the kids into the cycle lane infront of me.

I did report the sunken drain covers on Clarence a while back, but they were never fixed. I will do it again, particularly the one at bottom of Argyle Place.

Heavy traffic through central Edinburgh, delays on Leith Street, Picardy Place, Broughton Street & London Road. #edintravel

"
Not just 'rush' hour then.

Must be all those bicycle people who don't like the wind.

Yep - traffic jammed in Southside, Salisbury Place, top of MMW, London Road/Leith Walk.

Had to drive in today due to sick kids. NOT relaxed!

The Meadows were ridiculously clogged this morning, the full length heading east to west was nose to tail. There were cars stopped in the yellow hatched box at the east end unable to get into the queue and stranded when the lights changed (including a police car, tut tut).

Going to have to post the video of the filter just for the joy of cycling it entails. Yeah, so it might be wet and windy outside, but I can see I saved, easily, 20 minutes, possibly more, which is plenty time to get changed and have a hot coffee. So despite the weather, who has arrived at work more relaxed?
