"you'd have to be pretty good to control it for exactly 6 flashes"

Or just put your hand in front.

"A whistle is more effective, cheaper and more reliable"

So that's the next challenge -

Does my whistle sound big in this?

@Uberuce - you'd have to be pretty good to control it for exactly 6 flashes, which is the recognised night time distress signal. Your recipient would also have to be pretty good at high-speed counting!

A whistle is more effective, cheaper and more reliable.

It's called Daylight Visibility mode, which is all I've used it for. I imagine it'd have too much backwash to be a good fog light.

If I was of hiking/camping ilk, I think I'd bring it along in case I had to signal for help.

The strobing on the minewt will get you noticed by other road users, but I'm not sure I'd want to rely on it in strobe mode to see by.

Egads! A lazer-guided Uberuce is something to see.

So, if used on the road Crees are likely to irradiate drivers and prevent them having children? I've not used my C&BSeen Cree-based light yet, but was planning on a couple of Arthur laps tomorrow to try it out. I'll make sure it's pointing down the way...

A suboptimaly productive evening for Kaputnik; on taking the first ride out, I toe-overlapped the bejesus out of his front mudguard and so he missed much of the subsequent light jousting as he tried to finger-plier it back into shape.

@Stickman, we probably unsettled many of the cyclists-by, specifically the ones with bright but responsible mounting, since we assumed they were one of us. Nothing to be shy about, except for the bit at the start where newcomers have to justify themselves to us while we stand in hostile silence.

Cree lights are fearsome.

Round beam patterns aren't the best on road.

A SMIDSY on biketrain ought to be a de facto admission of driving without due care, since there's shiny stuff everywhere on that fella.

....If I can find that damn charger for my camera that is.

@LaidBack: I think I erroneously called it Murrayfield park earlier, apologies for the confusion, for the avoidance of doubt it's this. I'd propose meeting at the middle path with all the trees, at the junction with the changing rooms. Failing that I suspect we'll be the only ones standing around gazing with fascination at each others lights.

Unfortunaately at 1820 I'm 20+ miles away preparing food for No1 son!
Someone can have a ply on whatever I bring to the next PY and I guess that'll have to do...
Have fun chaps and chapesses :-)

I'm going to try to come along to see how my lights compare, but after my meeting I'll have to go home to exchange vehicles and then get across town again. So unlikely to be at Roseburn for 1820 on the dot.

When Charlotte and Graham from a cycling forum far, far away tested lights, dynamo power was accommodated by use of rollers and some steadying hands on shoulders.

I reckon I can do this, if only for the photo op, but I'd also like to see what my dynamo lights look like to others (given I can't really check myself as they dim to the standlight when stopped!).
