I did make space by clearing out an entire bicycle's worth of components first, which I could conveniently ride to the Bike Station as a fully-assembled bicycle. Getting a frame to store spare components on is certainly tidier than having various bits in various boxes and unused wheels hanging from nails in lofts and tucked behind bikes at the backs of sheds.

Trying 44/20 fixed (58.9") at the moment, as I have no wish to banjo my knees and only need it for faster-than-walking commute/utility usage (including child-dragging). I have a few other sprockets to try and a 17t freewheel, but thought I'd try to get used to fixed first.

Slightly a self-present (frame and wheelbuilds) but more a sort of using-up-some-bits-I-had-lying-around exercise combined with replacing the time-hungry maintenance-needing heavy clunky spare with something easier to fit in the shed and more likely to be in working order if the properbike is ever incapacitated. Pompino V4 frame, the dynohub from the old (now BikeStationed) spare, the B&M lights from the old spare, some pre-existing tyres, a pair of Rigida Sputniks which were lying around after ordering a few extra to save on postage in last year's crash-replacement shopping, a couple of wheelbuilds and a headset fitting by the Cycle Service and some spare handlebars I also had lying around after similarly failing to find the time to convert my old Revolution Continental frame to a singlespeed.
I could have used some old mudguards and existing brake levers but thought it would save me time to just get fresh ones which work properly.

@LaidBack - Er. One of these. I have no NEED for this bike but... it was on sale? And I thought it might be fun, and possibly there could be some off-road touring type adventures once I've finished strapping stuff to it. Or just gravel highway riding as I did NOT enjoy that on touring tyres, at all... I have never owned any form of mountain bikey thing. I have already managed to get unfeasibly muddy just riding on the WoL pathway and I think I approve (though I have also now attached mudguards and have a slight concern that I'll fall off and break something as soon as I venture Pentlands-wards...)

Birthday - an Aeropress, a nine speed cassette, a pair of Koolstop salmon pads and a Moon rear light. Christmas - a gift voucher for Ace Bikes which will probably go towards a better pair of winter gloves.

@Laidback - that makes me wonder - how many bikes have I ridden in total? I think it is fewer than twenty.

That depends on your monitor size. Having ruled out the official marketing photo I was trying to decide if her bike was the one in a Danish Tweet or being ridden by a bloke in jeans when I spotted it on the top row due to my widescreen monitor.

My family don't do big presents, so bike-related stuff was just an out of date - but nonetheless useful - book (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Canadian-Cycling-Associations-Complete-Bicycle/dp/0920361048) - it is giving me ideas; and a new bell.

I got a very large book with an ominous title - '1001 Bikes to Dream of Riding Before you Die'.
The front cover has a Boardman AiR 9.2 super aero upright. The book has a foreword by Boardman himself and is edited by Guy Kesteven.

Running at 960 pages the book weighs 2kg.

There are quite a few grams of errors though.
It's a big publishing mash up really - to be kind. If any other forumers have this as a gift it's actually entertaining for what it leaves out and gets wrong. So if you have one enjoy!

LB suprisingly manages to sell a couple of brands mentioned (Azub, Airnimal, ICE, Bacchetta) - basically there I think to make some contrasts with many, many similar bikes.
- The Airnimal Joey folder is good but I would rate the Circe Tandem as even more inventive (fewer tandems than 'bents in this book I think)
- The ICE Sprint folding trike is easily more inventive than 99% and enables all ability cycling. Yet no picture and wrong info. Burrows Windcheetah in twice.
- German company HPV gets too much and even has their clear Streamer fairing entered as a machine
- The Bakfiets two wheeler has pic of trike version
- Christiana country of origin is Denmark - not UK
- Bacchetta model shown is wrong one. No mention of designers.
- No really fast laid back designs
- no M5s from Bram Moens (arguably as influential as Mike Burrows)
- Kirkpatrick Macmillan - no mention
- 32 models from Specialized with loads from Giant, Santa Cruz and Raleigh
- Surly Long Haul Trucker - no
- Two Moultons - yes

A mixed bag and wonder how many other errors are in the road bike entries?

other half was despairing of finding me anything in Pueblo so I relented and pointed him towards the Vulpine website. Hopefully something nice in merino will be waiting for me when we get home. And my inlaws gave me an Aeropress which is tangentially cycling related

My only cycling present so far (at least one more present is to come next week when my brother arrives) is a random lower head/neck warmer mask from a friend which currently smells of some kind of cheap synthetic material. Assuming that it becomes cold enough to try it and it smells less, I fear that I will look like a wrestler, ninja, Star Wars character or a strange combination of all of the above...

Merry Christmas ;)
