@hankchief looks good. I'll have a go! I figure it is slightly less secure than actually attaching to frame, but still pretty good.

(btw, what works for me on flickr is to click the drop down 'share' ; 'grab the html/bbccode' and then just cut and paste the 'middle' bit with img/img code around it).

I think I have got flikr

Not the most interesting photos for everyone.

I should say that all the black p-clips /nuts&bolts attached to rack is to allow me to still have panniers on despite the seat being flush to the top of the frame.

Hankchief - I did consider that and have been mulling it over. I sort of tried it, and like you figured it would need extra cable ties, but didn't have any to hand. Not sure I will make PY.

I could send you my email address by PM nd culd send pictures. Or, if you put them on Flickr I now know how to load them to forum (after several years of bafflement and chit having explained it over and over...)

SRD - have you tried fixing it to the rack down stays...

I saw your post starting off this discussion and got one for my Helios. Had the same frustrating time trying to fix it around brakes and it not allowing the rear pedals to turn.

Had the brainwave that it doesn't need to fix to the frame as once the circle is complete that is the protection rather than the joining to the frame.

Have managed to get it on tonight - was a bit loose with just the 2 black fixings it came with so I've added some more cable ties.

I should be at the NY PY with mini HankChief if you want to take a look.
(Posting photos on here is beyond me -sorry)

For me there wouldn't be any advantage to that (I have locks and chains that I use already). I will see if recombo's frame locks fit better.

Not being able to fit it without obstructing the pedals aside, would it fit (if it fitted) in such a way which would allow a standard loop-ended cable to be used with it to attach the bike to stands and pipes without the use of an additional padlock?

What a pf aff! Have tried every possible angle and attachment and it just will not fit on the Helios. I thought I had everything sorted, and then remembered that the pedals have to go around :(.

Anyone want to buy an only slightly used frame lock? Perfect for the school run, shopping etc?

@SRD - there's a plug on the side opposite the key (as I recall). Remove the plug, and you've access to a circular hole into which the cable may be inserted. As the lock is engaged with the wheel, the cable end is captured by a slot.

<wanders off to check the Pino>

Nope, I was wrong, the plug is actually in the end of the lever - bit you move to engage the lock.

@SRD I have one of those cables - a bit pointless in Dumfries where locking your bike up at all is considered a shocking indictment. I could bung it in the post with your 'perhaps' bag which you lent me so kindly at PY.

We've now figured out the zip ties - couldn't get them open, but MR SRD found the hidden screws.

And your take on the lever also correct. But there is supposed to be an option to connect a cable or chain which locks in too, only I can't figure out where. We never got our sare cable with big loops on the end back after Pop, but luckily my ancient one with very small attachments should fit over lock.

It's not quite the same as mine but the zipties hold it onto the seat stays at the brake bridge.

The lever on the left moves the bar through the wheel and then you turn the key which will come out when locked.

Thought about starting a new thread 'the perils of online shopping'....

A couple of puzzling things about this. It doesn't look like the one in pictures on eg abus website. Have queried seller. Also can't figure out how you attach an extra cable (haven't bought one but tempted). Finally, can't figure out how to make the 'zipties' work. am I missing something really obvious?

Got one on the Pashley. Handy for jumping into Tesco express where you can just leave the bike at the window. They have a captive key so sometimes I lock it even when I don't need to so that some joker doesn't lock it and walk off with the key.

I bought one very similar a while back, intending to Dutchify the hybrid. However I found the lock interfered with the suspension struts for a Hamax child seat. Shouldn't be a problem with Co-pilot seat but worth bearing in mind clearance issues around the rear stays.

When I was in the bike co-op last week, looking for cycling socks for Mr SRD, I noticed that they sell an abus frame lock. Quite tempted to put one on the tandem.
One obvious downside is that it feels quite heavy. But otherwise i thinkit wold be quite handy.
