My copy arrived today.

I suppose I was expecting a 'normal' A4 magazine (as in common size, not content) or perhaps A5 like the delightful atob (June issue just out - Biketrax usually has copies £2.30).

But it no. It's B5 - slightly trimmed to 170x240. It's "perfect bound" - pages glued at the spine like a paperback - so, perhaps, less 'disposable, than most magazines. However the title/date etc. aren't printed on the spine - a detail for future issues?

In these days of the internet and dynamic iPad app versions of magazines, it may seem surprising that anyone bothers with 'print'. Rouleur has shown there is a market for well produced niche products. On the face of it the 'markets' for Boneshaker (£3.50) and Rouleur (£9) couldn't be more different, but anyone who likes bicycles, words, photos and print, would be happy with both.

Some snippets from issue 1

"Boneshaker is an attempt to bring together some of these people and projects, both on a local level, starting with my hometown of Bristol UK..."

(Sound familiar?..)

"The first time I saw Puncture Kit was a youtube clip of him street-busking" jimmy ell

"I was very naïve. I saw broken or badly maintained bikes everywhere and I just wanted to fix them and get more people cycling." (Jake Voelcker, Jake's Bikes)

"So still wanting to use my typewriter I just thought I would see if I could draw with it." Keira Rathbone

"our front room turned in to a bike storage space for around 50 bikes at a go." maria baños-smith

"Issue 2 is out early august"

http://boneshakermag.wordpress.com

I'll send one of the postcards to the first 3 people who PM me.

"We are based in bristol, UK and have started producing a quarterly not-for-profit magazine about people and projects doing great things with bikes around the globe - have a look at our blog here:

http://boneshakermag.wordpress.com/

Issue 1 is out now and is a 60page, advert-free, full colour, perfectly-bound publication on uncoated paper and looks lovely!"
