Lovely.</p> <p>The mist around the Castle, combined with the low sun, was creating a nice rainbow up the side of Castle Rock viewed from Castle Trerace.</p> <p>There was a moment, at the bottom of Lothian Road, where the mist catching in the sun was creating a gazillion little fireflies. It really was, genuinely, beautiful to watch moving in the breeze. Braking to a halt at the kerb to dismount and hop up onto the towpath, I realised that the edge of the road was sheet black ice.</p> <p>Luckily I haven't taken my studded tyres off yet, so was able to stop under control, but only just. I was braking considerably harder than prudent for studded tyres on ice, and felt the back wheel kick out from under me just before the bike stopped.</p> <p>I <em>think</em> that the towpath by Wester Hailes might have been gritted over the weekend.
