"Is the eco-congregation initiative still active in Edinburgh?"

Depends who you ask. I was interviewed recently by an Msc student who was studying it for her dissertation. I got the impression she'd struggled to find congregations to study. but maybe she hadn't looked very far afield, as their newsletters always seem to have good examples - but rural more than urban?

I think the "old folks" argument is a bit stronger than the "fridge" argument, as long as public transport is running at a reduced/inadequate level.

Pushing people away from private car use requires an alternative, and I'm having difficulty persuading some of the older members of the congregation on to the front of the Pino as an alternative to the bus...

Of course, my congregation isn't in the city centre, so could benefit from the diaspora!

Andy Neal, chief executive of Essential Edinburgh – the business group which manages the city centre – said Sunday parking charges would “potentially slow down” trade for a day that had seen growth and force shoppers out of town.
He said: “As a proportion of the trading week, Sunday has really been increasing and one of the drivers for that is free parking.

Hmm. Presumably this is mostly folk from out of town though. Most Edinburgh residents don't drive to the shops......oh wait.

I sometimes think Edinburgh basically doesn't want anyone anywhere, except tourists with lots of money.

Churches might well see their collections go down as a result of increased parking charges. Is the eco-congregation initiative still active in Edinburgh?

At this stage, I could write these articles in my sleep.

It would be nice if, just once, a Councillor would come out and say "We don't want people driving to the city centre" instead of shying away from the issue and pandering to the Motorist.
