Maybe we should let them build the motorway and multi-storey, provided they agree to use their cars only on it and nowhere else?

"I think that may have been written tongue-in-cheek"

Good idea though.

Edinburgh is soooo backward.

By now we should have an elevated dual carriageway on stilts through The Meadows, a tunnel through Calton Hill, a road along Rocheid Path, the west and north sides of George Square matching the other two sides, a road under Princes Street, etc.

I think that may have been written tongue-in-cheek.

The guy in the photo is 61. He's probably fed up in general and looking forward to his retirement in a couple of years' time. Maybe he'd better book that luxury cruise around the world sooner rather than later, as he's just taken early retirement by advertising he doesn't want any work.

There is far too much history in Edinburgh. The council need to knock down all the buildings and construct big motorways through the centre so that car drivers can get where they need to go without being annoyed. They started this project in Glasgow in the 1960s and recently the M77 spur that connects with the M74 has been completed so now the whole city is surrounded by motorway on all four sides. Late at night or very early in the morning, when there is little traffic it is therefore really easy to get round Glasgow. Edinburgh needs to go down this route.

Speaking of couriers buying more bikes, last year I spoke to a courier as I was heading to a PY coffee meetup. He had not heard of POP21, but at the head of Kings Stables Road he jumped the pavement at the West side of the Grassmarket leaving Kings Stables Road, and then jumped the lights at Forest Road 'Y'. More sensible cycles and less Eejits please!!

One day some people - Hootsman and Chipwrapper journalists in particular - will accept we live in a city with largely mediaeval and Georgian city-centre layout, that predate the internal combustion vehicle by a few hundred years and no amount of railing against it will suddenly provide ample parking for all. Get over it and get on with it and if business don't want to adapt to it, let them take their business else where and others will gladly take their place.

If surveyors like the whinger-in-cheif on that article aren't able to adapt to bike or motorbike-based transport (I'm surprised there aren't more scooters in Edinburgh) should consider the economics of either A/ taking a taxi or B/ employing an assistant to drop them and their equipment off at a job and pick them up later. Not having to circle the streets looking for a crevice to park (illegally) in would result in a time saving for them I'm sure and no more missed / late appointments.

The muppet at the start complaining he wouldn't take a job in the city because he couldn't park must have plenty of work if he's just advertised he's too busy to do a job in town...

Good to see the couriers try to adapt, maybe they'll get a cargo bike next...

Yes, the response of Eagle Couriers is much more pragmatic. Good for them. As for the others, they should park legally. End of.

One numpty says "Locally I charge between £20 to £25 an hour for my tradesmen, plumbers will be £35 up to £40. But if I go into town, it’s £40 minimum for a joiner and £50 to £60 for a plumber or electrician. Those parking costs get passed onto the customer.”

Ah yes, I forgot it costs £20 per hour to park........doesnt it??????

Should read "Tradesmen too stupid to buy a parking ticket are surprised when they have to pay a £30 fine - decide to ignore it and have to stump up £60 - then pass that on to the customer"

No sympathy from me. These gusy should set up cycle based business in the city centre instead of whingeing to the daily rags.

"Tradesmen have the option of applying for a special parking permit through the council. A month costs £100, an annual permit is £1000.

That allows a tradesperson to park in pay and display bays all day, or in residents’ and shared use spaces between 9am and 4.30pm."
