Remove driver ability, boo!&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;I think we're in that middle ground where 'driver aids' are actually making driving ability worse because people don't have to think about how to brake or steer or park when they can't use them (I think parking sensors are a good example, without the beep beep beep reversing folk are lost).&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;If and when the technology comes into being that &#60;em&#62;all&#60;/em&#62; cars are merely things that are programmed and drive from A to B on their own withou any driver input whatsoever &#60;em&#62;then&#60;/em&#62; automated driving may have an appreciable impact (if you'll pardon the pun) on driving incident statistics.

&#60;p&#62;(Sorry mate, my &#34;intelligent&#34; driving system didn't see you). All fine and well for people who can't be bothered to pay attention on the motorway, but I really don't think this is a solution for urban casualties (although I guess strictly speaking they didn't mention cyclists. Maybe it can't detect them?) Wonder who gets the blame when you forget it only works above 30kmh (must have been designed by an Audaxist) and you crash at 29kmh.
