Major work due to start on A9 Kessock Bridge

"Transport Scotland said that the use of state-of-the-art materials means the bridge will not require major work for another 30 years."

A super new surfacing technique (or somat else)?

I pull into the cycle lanes when no one parked in them, allows cars to get past. Sometimes I get shouted at to get out of the way but I suggest they shout at the people who have parked in the bike lanes, innit

Does anyone actually cycle in the bike lanes?

If you're cycling in the 'bike lanes', potholes are the last of your worries. You're more likely to be doored, fed into the back of a parked car, squeezed into a pinch point, etc...

Even the ones that do get resurfaced properly just get smashed to bits again quickly. Clerk Street is one example and a horrible one at the top of Leith Street which is becoming craterised once again.

It doesn't need resurfacing, it needs re-everything.

I have had to do a lot of driving round town last couple of weeks and - imho - the roads are almost past the point of no return. Years of half arsed repairs, HGVs and utility trenches filled poorly = terrible on road experience, whatever mode of transport.

Edinburgh's roads are knackered the whole city needs resurfaced. My wife was over in Christchurch (NZ) a few months after their big earth quake and her mum commented on how bad the roads were. Apart from the ones that had sunk in to the ground they were all better than here.

The nightmare pothole across from Evans that I clarenced as been replaced by a large dump of tar macadam. Hopefully cars will level it a bit as whereas I had a narrowmgap to left of pothole there is no such gap with the lump of tar.

The a70 pm entry to Balerno on the other hand has had the road nearest the kerb resurfaced very well.i shall try clarencimg the other side now.

There is a lovely new pavement on Chalmers Crescent, I might cycle down it instead of the lunar landscape of the road surface.

Priorities my backside.

Considering most of our on-street bike "lanes" are also parking bays, maybe this works against getting them fixed as a priority?

Stephan Matthiesen (@St_Matthiesen)
08/02/2013 20:42
@CyclingEdin Do you know council's priorities for potholes? Get bike lanes higher priority because holes more dangerous for bikes?

"

"

Cycling Edinburgh (@CyclingEdin)
08/02/2013 21:08
@St_Matthiesen No but "Get bike lanes higher priority because holes more dangerous for bikes?" is a good idea

Try @AndrewDBurns @LAHinds

"

"

Stephan Matthiesen (@St_Matthiesen)
08/02/2013 21:10
@CyclingEdin @AndrewDBurns @LAHinds There is good case for fixing potholes in bike lanes first, as they can lead to serious injuries.

"

Lesley Hinds (@LAHinds)
08/02/2013 22:43
@CyclingEdin now we have agreed the extra funding, prioritising that expenditure will happen
