@ smudge and Dave.
As far as i could work out the sails were not in great condition, possibly stored outdoors, not dry ! In no way would this be a turn up and sail her to see how it went .It would need skills and a trained eye to work out i9f it was a goer ! The person who gave us it was an older gent, experienced sailor who has other hulls , but was always "going" to restore this one, but it just became a garden obstacle. We (cadets) have two servicable dinghys and one other wooden project , but we know the square root of nothing about sailing and boats. It was becoming a space problem and if someone can use it then great, but its just not within our skill range,
however , if anyones got any aircraft that they dont want............or anything aviation related !

@Dave, sheets are easy, after all it's just posh rope ;-)
Sails may well be fine for casual use, as long as they've been stored dry. A racer would probably want to replace them, but for cruising, mch less critical.
Always best to go have a shufti. These things can be very unpredictable!

You could also try a local or not so local sea scout troop.

Linlithgow are probably closest.

There used to be a sea scout unit at Queensferry
but not sure if that's still the case.
(They call themselves South Queensferry - don't even the people that live there know what the town is called?)

Also sea scouts at Cramond

Hi Scott,

I spoke to a couple of sailing mates who reconned it may need new sails and sheets etc...?? They couldn't say without seeing it but I think I'll give it a miss, but thanks for the offer, I hope you get someone to take it off you and who will look after it and use it.

Hi Scott,

I'd love this as we live 10 mins walk from our local sailing club. Can I have a chat to the missus this evening and get back to you in the morning please?

fairly OT but, some may already know, but I am involved with a yoof group, and we have come to be in possesion of,
one kestrel sailing dingy, approx 16/17 feet long, fibre glass hull, sails, etc etc etc, and a trailer for the same.
The whole outfit has lain unused for some years and is in need of recomishioning.
The ballast/float tanks(?????) are apparently intact, having been vacum tested. The trailer WILL NEED ATTENTION before carrying the hull.
The whole thing is going to need skills and time that we /I do not have and is therefore being offered to anyone who is nautically minded, possible swap for anything that could be usefull/fun .
If no one wants it then am sure the local sea cadets will take it.
Scott
