Meanwhile, the passenger ferry from Rosyth to Europe has been dead for over a year. Freight only now. Still, never mind, we'll have a brand new bridge for the cars from coming from Newcastle and big container lorries coming from Felixstowe to trundle over...

I found it somewhat amusing that our Spanish-built trams came by sea only as far as Newcastle, where they then went on a low-loader in individual sections and were driven up the A1.

Obviously Leith Docks would have been too sore a point for the council as they would have to have pictures of trams being driven up Leith Walk on their way to Gogar Depot, never to return!

Reading the article in full (over a brew) I can see it definately won't come to pass (over the Forth). What with different potential contributors apparently refusing to talk to each other and doubt cast over the EU funding as its technically not a lifeline connection to a remote inhabited location, I'd say it will sink in the Forth like a few other craft.... Shame really, as I would love the chance to commute on a ferry occasionally.

It'll never take off! I can't see North Berwick having enough tourists to make a ferry service viable (even if it were subsidised) to Anstruther.

The Leith - Burntisland would have been good and all the harbour infrastructure is (nearly) in place, as is/was Granton - BI.

Oh well.

The concept of a hoverferryboat from Fife to OT just seems so inherently brilliantly win/win. Which naturally is why we're not bothering.

Yes well, we live in a world where public transport 'has to be' subsidised.

Bridges are infrastructure not subsidy.

Very true. Completely crazy, but true.

And also in a city/country where residents are almost completely excluded from having anything in favour of tourists. I guess it is because we are a captive audience. We have to be here, spend money here and pay council tax.

Which Ocean is it that Ocean terminal is name for anyway?

I think it's beyond the council's thinking capacity to consider using Leith Docks for the purposes of docking anything apart from floating tourist attractions.

LONGSTANDING plans to revive a commuter ferry between Fife and Edinburgh have collapsed amid new proposals to divert the six-figure European funding into a tourist service between North Berwick and Anstruther.
