It's 50p per spoke and nipple for stainless steel DT Swiss

Champion, Competition, Super Comp, Revolution, Alpine, Aerolite, Aero Speed or Aero Comp? :-)

I've had the best results building with DT Revs.

I think Bicycleworks charge c.£40 for an Open Pro rim.

They also stock double-walled, double-eyeleted A319 for heavier duty / touring applications.

You can take your own bits in (hubs, rims, etc.) or they can order out the catalogue.

If it's quiet, they usually turn around in a day, although I've had it done same day before. It's 50p per spoke and nipple for stainless steel DT Swiss, which is what they use by default (although they'll use anything you ask them to). Tape is a couple of quid extra.

Bicycleworks in Argyll Place built me a wheel last month for my budget winter training bike project. I supplied an old Shimano 105 rear hub and Open Pro rim. I think they charged £18 for spokes and £20 to put it all together.

Hi cyclists,

I thought I'd start a new thread about wheel building as searching for advice, it appears a little bit distributed in threads about other things.

To date I have two wheels built for my Dawes by a local chap in Aberdour, Fife. I have a dynamo front wheel and with Open Sport Rim and a Tiagra hubbed Open Sport rear wheel. Dave is nice and freindly, offers good advice and also can collect and return bikes and components if you live within a ~10 miles of his place. He's Dave Seaman, owns Daves Bikeshed, and also does Dr Bike sessions in Fife.

I'm having a spare front wheel built for me with components I am supplying from cheap interweb shopping.

I've bought a Shimano XT 36 spoke disc compatible hub from Wiggle for £25 and a Rigida Chrina rim (£18) as it was cheaper than the Mavic Open Sport. Dave charges £30 to build the wheel, ~£2 for the rim tape and currently (6th march 2013) 65p per spoke (ACI spokes double butted stainless steel - were 30p May 2012)

If you have any advice on who else builds wheel (with or without costs) please feel free to add to this thread so anyone searching for info can find it all in one thread.

Happy and safe cycling, Dave C
