I don't disagree that the Bonaly truck should not have parked there, however are we not missing the point, which is that drivers are also victims of badly designed roads(QBC and adjacent road).

Shops need deliveries, and corner shops have not got the delivery acres that supermarkets have, they rely on the council to "assist" with such facilities.

The obvious solution in this instance is to have a discussion with National Autocare behind and come to some agreement to use part of their extensive front yard.

How much milk is the truck actually delivering to this one shop? I suspect it weighs under 100Kg and would easily be shipped around on a less polluting cargo bike.

One option is to get there in time to surround (queue up behind waiting for the truck to move) until he gets the message to drive somewhere to legally unload (would that be just off the main road?) obviously a queue of cyclists behind the truck would make it difficult to open the door....

Truck is also parked too close to the corner (15 yards is I believe the dimension)

@Ronnie: the double yellow / no loading markings go right up to the garage from the corner - the length of the block.

It seems from the photo that the rear wheel is not actually on the double yellow, i think that is an offence technically, i would consult Lothian and Borders finest to find out if thats correct.

I've had some success complaining to the manager responsible for driving standards, the fleet manager or the manager responsible for health and safety.

Of course, if the company doesn't care, then you're wasting your breath (step up Omnicare Pharmacies)...

For a while after I published my first Quality Bike Corridor video the Bonaly Dairy lorry which parks illegally right on the corner of Ratcliffe Terrace and Grange Loan seemed to stop doing so.

(The video was passed on to someone from enforcement since it's a full time no-loading area, although I don't know if they did anything with it or not).

I have seen it a couple of times since, but today in the middle of rush hour another cyclist and myself were being pushed out into the busy uphill traffic, so I thought I'd stop and have a word.

The driver was belligerent. The shopkeeper was pleasant and apologetic but basically said we just had to look the other way because if the driver had to park down Grange Loan there were a few bins and he'd be further away (and some roads don't have cycle lanes anyway).

I have seen a warden moving these guys on once, but it obviously does little good. I'm guessing even if they were ticketed that £30 is just part of the costs of doing business.

Any ideas? I am sometimes concerned that myself or another rider might slam into the back of the lorry and need to sue them for huge amounts of compensation, but that's only going to happen if someone does get injured (a morbid hope, and not one I really want if truth be told).
