Rosslyn Chapel's visitor centre

The cafe at Rosslyn Chapel is apparently only open to those who have already paid to visit the Chapel, thus depriving the cafe of substantial revenue from people who would simply like to use it as a cafe. I've heard that this arrangement is not entirely to the cafe operator's liking.

I've certainly never visited.

Here's the blurb from RIAS on Sugarhouse Close:

“This is a very large development on a difficult site, combining re-used historic buildings and new-build with ingenuity. Materials, landscaping and scale are all appropriate to the weave of the Old Town.”

I'm assuming this is a different Sugarhouse Close from the one I pass every day - which appears to be a steaming pile of cheapo materials, hastily cobbled together to make a quick buck from well-off students.

"

THE Revamped Assembly Rooms and a small chapel are among four local buildings nominated for a prestigious Scottish architecture award.

The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) narrowed 75 Scottish submissions down to a shortlist of 25, with four coming from the Lothians.

The Assembly Rooms on George Street, The Chapel of Saint Albert the Great on George Square, Sugarhouse Close student accommodation in Holyrood, and Rosslyn Chapel’a visitor centre in Roslin are all in the running for an RIAS award. All four buildings were restored, refurbished or erected to serve the Lothian community, and all four want the recognition of the RIAS award, which is seen as a benchmark of architectural achievement in Scotland.
