For "steely stare of concentration" read "squinting through sunglasses to make sure I'm not about to hit a tramp lying in the tunnel." I always say hello when I realise it's you though. And if I wasn't going so fast, I'd stop, but I don't want to do a fast brake in the greasy tunnel. I always stop if we cross in evenings, although that hasn't happened for months.

I have no sympathy with you Anth since you are frequently trying to confuse me by riding a variety of different bikes! I usually manage to spot you in the distance anyway. I think it because you about 8'6 and therefore not hard to spot. ;-)

Can't claim to have ever recognised anyone by their tyre tracks. Though a friend and I used to leave messages for each other in grit piles at the side of the road so we knew if the other had already ridden past.

"I need to get a life..."

Why?

Riding a bike(s) should be enough...

Could you get a Scout badge for it?

Once upon a time, in about 1989 I think, it was possible to identify where your friends had been because of their tyre tracks through that patch of mud near your house. Tioga Farmer John? That'd be Rob. Specialized Ground Control? One of the yellow Tufftraxes. Mud Dawg? Harry. Farmer John's Nephew? Probably Tweet.

Now it's normal for me to spot people by recognising their bike first. Or sometimes (as is the case with Kirst's panniers - though she often blanks me in a steely stare of concentration) byy various accessories on the bike.

This morning I spotted, and reconised, Min by her riding style as she silhouettedly entered the top of the Innocent Tunnel while I was halfway up.

I think, maybe, I need to get a life...
