@Claggy - I contacted the local-ish Bikeability trainers (listed helpfully somewhere on the Cycling Scotland website) about private training, since the school isn't making much progress.

I was thinking about the official Bikeability stuff, although I suspect some of mine fall between the grades (technically competent, but not capable of the necessary dynamic risk assessment).

I didn't get many responses, but may have one trainer willing to do some - might be worth combining it to minimise costs.

I'm a bikeability instructor.

Not based in Edinburgh anymore but do still get up quite often. Keep me informed of prospective dates and if I can help out I will.

we'd be up for that. will have a think about possible car parks (that's where I learned to cycle myself).

I'm a Bikeability assistant trainer. I'm sure there are a few others on here also. Perhaps we could arrange some CCE training for members children? We'd need somewhere quiet like a large carpark at an industrial unit. I'd be able to help if others were able to assist. No qualifications would be given but we may be able to get some nice badges made up to keep the wee ones smiling at the end of the day?

SRD - not quite the right age group, but if you can hold off until they are 8 then the Edinburgh Road Club have an ERC juniors group teaching that sort of thing - http://www.edinburghrc.co.uk/about/erc-juniors

Thank you Colin.

@SRD, basic road training, such as signalling, how to ride safely. I am not sure that a 5/6 year old is quite ready for track or racing training.

what do you mean by training? road sense? or cycling like the next chris hoy?

ps, will your friends and their grandson be coming to POP2? Their MP has son of same demographic. would be great if they could encourage him to come along...

Claggy Cog

I suggest you try Hannah at The Bike Station, who is, I understand, the new training co-ordinator there. I do some cycle tuition for them on occasion.
If that doesn't provide results, pm me and I'm sure I'll be able to help.

Cheers

I am being a bit lazy and I am sure that if I search long enough I might find a link or something that might be of interest...A friend has a grandson aged 5/6 who is mad keen on cycling, he has an Isla bike (by the sound of it) and has gone on rides with grandad up to 15 miles. Grandad would like to get his grandson some training but they don't do it in the local schools for kids his age if at all, or at least none that they are aware of. I think they contacted Bikeability but have heard nothing back or since. They live Ratho way and would travel to any cycle training. Can anyone on here help? Are they doing training themselves, or know of a school or after school club where there might be training. Thanks in anticipation!!
