I think if he gets there early enough he should be allowed to use the bypass & A90 with police permission. Or a police escort!

Yes well...

IS there a recognised LEJoG route?

In the past it was legal to use bypass (I think??) as well as A90.

Haha hope not. Last time I remember tweeting him to avoid the bypass, which was on his route. I've heard several people complain that Edinburgh is the most confusing part of the LEJOG route. Should be easy enough to clearly signpost it!

Seems to have timed it right with regards to wind - nice bit of assistance for day 1 at least. Ideally it turns into a northerly this time Wednesday but that's not looking likely...

he got a little lost in Edinburgh

You're not wrong. From looking at his live tracking plots, even accounting for the fact it's only plotting one point every 10 minutes, he must have lost time in Edinburgh, then again on his detour through Kirkliston. That said, he's now in Evanton already!

Hoppo is something else.

Feb 2005: won Sebring 12hr time trial, 249 miles
Mar 2005: LEJoG in 2 days, 10 hrs, 845 miles
Apr 2005: 2nd place Davis 12hr, 242 miles
May 2005: won Austrian 24hrs, 472 miles
Jul 2005: RAAM in 12 days, 3052 miles

Then did 369 miles in a 24hr race as a recovery ride, with a busted Achilles tendon.

I'd suspect the type of bike and speed of someone going for a record such as this, together with his likely tiredness level, would dictate he's likely looking for a road route, and not a narrow pavement with driveways and bus shelters and 'cyclists dismount' signs.

I guess Kincardine Bridge looks like it would be a big diversion, but then just straight north?

he was asking on Twitter what the A90 was like - the responses were obviously sufficiently negative about the cyclepath to make him select an alternative route to the bridge

Indeed, and that would have me worried. Enough people use that route to suggest it's not a danger, and if he's going for a record, what alternative route could he take that won't delay him significantly?
