Meantime, if you cut in to Glendevon and follow the very quiet streets northward until you reach the most northerly one running east/west (can't access a map at work to see its name) I think you pick up the sign posts for the path from Murrayfield. Anyway, turn left past where the lemonade factory used to be , now "new" flats, and you will be taken under the old railway straight to the surfaced lower path thence to the upper path Corstorphinewards.

Very! You can't see what's coming under the bridge and it's invariably going fast.

When I first started doing my Morningside <> Corstorphine commute I used to use that path but gave it up after a few weeks, mainly due to the surface but possibly also because the nights were drawing in.

So I will welcome this upgrade. The new crossing at Balgreen Road will hopfully make it easier to get out at the east end of the route. I seem to recall that this could be a somewhat dicey manoeuvre.

Noticed on the Transport and Environment Committee minutes that the unsurfaced, unlit section from the Golf Course to the Jenners Depository is due to be surfaced and given streetlighting in this year's cycle path priorities.

Perhaps it's just because I'm local and don't "see" them but I've never noticed any signs for the zoo on the roads even.

okay. thanks folks. the far end of the lower path appeared to have a new-looking paved surface, but will stick to upper.

have also asked the west team to put in some signs. let me know if you ever see any...

The time I tried the lower path 'twas muddy

I recommend coming off and cycling through Pinkhill roads if heading west east out with rush hour, fairly quiet back roads

The 'lower' path is definitely not better condition, & not surfaced. (it maybe just looks it, looking down from above)

Oh, and I totally agree with your point that it's barking that there are no "this way to the zoo" signs, considering what a popular attraction it is!

yes, we did go up the way you suggest to the left, but then were puzzled to see many other people using the lower path, which seemed better condition than the one we were on. thanks for clarification.

I came this way last night to inspect. I have twigged what he was referring to.

If you go along Glendevon, you go under the (old) railway bridge and arrive in golf club car park. To your right is an informal dirt track that skirts the golf course (probably used by the greenkeepers' vehicles). Affixed to the lamp post is one of the "Police Notice" signs saying "do not cycle on the pavement". It's not a pavement so I'm not sure what it's doing there.

If you want to get on to the railway path here, you have to go left, past the golf clubhouse and then left again will take you onto the path. Currently there's a large bollard saying "path closed" in direction of Balgreen. It's open in direction of Corstorphine, although path isn't surfaced for first few hundred metres.

My usual approach to the Corstorphine Path is back streets from Roseburn Park (the H2EP route)

I didn't see it, but MR SRD said he saw a sign saying 'no cycling'. but now, asking him again, it sounds like it is one of those signs that we talked about a while back.

but is it correct that cyclists aren't allowed on the paved bit along the golf course?

I'm not sure of a bit of that path that you aren't allowed to cycle on. I go that way most mornings.

Continuing from previous thread
#
the access from Glendevon is totally unsignposted, but sort of open.

but is it correct that cyclists aren't allowed on the paved bit along the golf course? we went on the elevated section, which is nice but dodgy surface. But why aren't the zoo exits signposted? we could sort of see where we needed to be, but ended up going up going 'the wrong way' both going and coming.
