Christchurch already has high cycle use, due to the fact it's flat, fairly dry and has a large student population.</p> <p>And although the recent earthquakes have brought devastation*, the positive side is that there's a clean slate to build cool stuff from the ground up.</p> <p>* Many of the multistorey office blocks in the central district will be demolished, even though they survived the earthquake, as they are no longer safe.
