A 4th started but came off at the first corner. My observation of TTing is that female participation is particularly low (even compared to road racing, which although low is on the increase). That said, current Scottish champion and (I think) national record holder is from ERC, although she's packed it in to take up marathon running.

@PS I remember that. The finish had to moved down into the village because the wind was gusting over 70mph. The previous year they were handing out space-blankets at the finish. I think that was in June.

@k I had something similar at the Radar Ride two or three years ago. Big ringing it up the Dalveen Pass and running out of gears is something that I'm unlikely to repeat...

I can vouch for how dreadful it was. I've never come so close to grinding to a halt downhill and tipping over as I did just after Leadburn. Had expected the 17 or so miles to take just over an hour, it was closer to 2 getting there.

The event was extended from its usual 22.5 miles to 25 miles this year as it was the Scottish Champs. Somewhat incredibly, the winning time was 57-ish minutes, with about 6 riders coming in very close together around that time. They struggled in the sidewind up to Shiplaw, but apparently headwind down towards Blyth Bridge wasn't so bad thanks to shelter of the ridge to the east and fairly flew through the climb up the Meldons.

On the plus side, home in 50 minutes without even trying. Can't recall ever doing 30mph freewheeling uphill - or running out of high gears at the top of a climb!
